captain's choice

a thousand things distil to one:
yes - for the chance to play again,
no - because a thousand things remain.

a thousand things distil to one:
more - for there is much merit,
less - because promises were not kept.

a thousand things distil to one:
direction - for we are determined and focused,
diffusion - because we misunderstand our purpose.

a thousand things distil to one:
to win - for we are true and steady,
to lose - because we are not ready.

and so the captain listening, looking,
ponders the one, best, next, thing.

aware of the boss's relentless responsibilities and the necessity of correct choice.
