confusion abounds in the world about us
chaos surrounds the truth we seek
     our decision requires knowing

choosing is confounded by complexity
decision is disconnected from direction
     our knowing requires discretion

intention eludes those we serve
purpose has not come to those we lead
     our discretion requires strength

responsibility extends to new limits
endurance is our deepest need
