belief
there comes early an awareness
of our need to believe,
and there follows years of searching
with integrity and wonder our burdens.
leaving

brink
somewhere along the journey
we a-rrive at an impassible brink,
and stand helpless at its edge
disconnected in sight of our quest.
leaping

belonging.
then unexpectedly one morning
we notice a belonging,
where belief and brink are included,
and we are centered again.
loving
for a friend who after years of troubles and introspection, found a decision of joining our faith community to be an experience of centering. so for us all. kierkegaard spoke of a leap of faith. tillich spoke of god as the ground of our being. reconciliation of these true things takes much time. thus da vinci's drawing, "a study in proportion". leonardo's dyslexia made his words (and this drawing) only readable in a mirror. our journey of faith is like that also.
