Crotch Salve Salesmen Getting rich by selling Rawleigh. |
I rememberl the Rawleigh salesmen calling.
They made good money with a horse and
buggy.
A sleeping facility in the back of
the buggy.
They'd tie the horse up to the fence.
They'd
sleep in the buggy all night. Next
day they'd
go down the road. They sold all kinds
of
stuff. They had a product that people
were
using. I can remember the first time I got sucked in on something like this in the Western Producer. Rawleigh came out with a picture just covered with numbers. And if you added them all up then you came up with a figure. And if you got the right figure you got a prize. I believe it was $5000. At that time it was a lot of money. Well anyway, we sat down in the winter ... we had nothing else to do ... we got the Western Producer out and we solved this damn puzzle. With the hired girl we got a pair of scissors and we cut all around the numbers. It got about this big ... and then we got another bunch of numbers out ... it's huge ... but we got 'em all there. Then we sat down and OK ... 2 ... 5 ... 7 ... we'd stroke 'em off as we did 'em. We got 'em all added up and it came to a final figure! And we sent this in to the paper. It was correct! It was great! We got a letter back. Well! They're ready to send us our money! But to qualify, you had to sell this certain item - Crotch Salve! You put in in your crotch so it wouldn't burn, or something like that. And you only had to sell $20 worth! Well sir, the first day I'm out to the neighbours - they looked like they needed this stuff. So I went up there and they're selling it too! Everyplace I went! Everywhere in the country! Everyone had solved this puzzle. Everybody had quite a supply of this stuff. |
